- Provide 250 GM head portion of the fish (I have used chonak/ sea bass)
- You need 1/2 cup freshly grated coconut
- Take 1 big onion, finely chopped
- You need 1 green chilli, slit vertically
- You need 1 TSP turmeric powder
- Take 1 TSP red chilli powder
- Use 4-5 dried kokam pieces
- Get 1-2 TSP coconut oil
- Take to taste Salt
- Prepare 1/2 TSP Sugar
- Prepare 3-4 TBSP water
Steps to make Goan Fish Kalputi:
- Apply 1/2 TSP turmeric powder and about 1 TSP salt to the cleaned fish and keep aside.
- In a pan, heat the coconut oil. Add green chilli and onion. Sauté till the onions soften.
- Next add in the freshly grated coconut and fish and sauté for a few mins.
- Add the remaining turmeric powder, red chilli powder and sugar. Add salt as per taste- remember we have added some salt to the marinade as well. Add kokam pieces, some water and give it a good mix. As you mix, some flesh from the fish will separate from the bone and that's fine.
- Cover with a plate and add some water on top of this plate- this will prevent the mixture inside from drying out. Let it cook for about 3-5 mins. Switch off the flame and serve!
